  • Hours of Work: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Professional 3 level position. Starting salary range: $55,596.00 - $62,847.00/annually, depending upon experience.

Job Summary:  Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Student Success Coach at Laramie County Community College is a full-time, benefited position, dedicated to supporting students throughout their academic journey, from initial interest to graduation. They guide students through enrollment, help identify educational and career goals and assist with program requirements. The coach also connects students to campus resources, and addresses academic challenges. They focus on building meaningful relationships through regular interactions and mentorship.

 

Additionally, the Student Success Coach plays a role in recruitment and promotes higher education by representing the College at events. They collaborate with various departments, including Pathway Coordinators and faculty, to ensure students receive comprehensive support and assistance.

 

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: – this position is Exempt, i.e., is/is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

  • Provide comprehensive guidance and support by advising, mentoring, and assisting students in program and course selection, academic planning, and resources utilization to ensure their success and retention at the college.
  • Implement targeted strategic recruitment enrollment goals by actively engaging prospective students, conducting outreach activities, and providing information on programs and admission processes to support college growth.
  • Foster strong relationships with high schools, Pathway Coordinators, and faculty by facilitating communication, providing guidance, and collaborating on initiatives to support student transition and success.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Academic, student, and employee policies and procedures.
  • College recruitment, admissions, and advising process; regulatory requirements; and operational structure.
  • Understanding of higher education theory and foundations.
  • Understanding of holistic advising.
  • Understanding of marketing to different populations of students.
  • Understanding of curriculum and degree paths.
  • Computers – Knowledge of operation of computers.
  • Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Office Procedures – Knowledge of office procedures and of spelling, grammar, punctuation and arithmetic.
  • Sales and Marketing – Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.

Skills:

  • Communication – Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the capacity to convey complex information clearly.
  • Computer Software – proficient in computer-based training software, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, and other relevant software applications to effectively complete job tasks.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Data Entry – Entering information or updating records in a database or computer system with minimal errors.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Ability to interact effectively with others, build relationships, and manage interpersonal dynamics.
  • Organization – Ability to organize tasks, resources, and workflows efficiently.
  • Records Management – Proficient in organizing, updating, and maintaining accurate records in both physical and digital formats. Skilled in using records management software and tools to ensure easy access and security of information.

  • Teamwork and Collaboration – Ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to group goals and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Time Management - Managing one's own time and the time of others.

Abilities:

  • Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some high levels of urgency.
  • Attention to Detail – The ability to observe, analyze, and comprehend even the most minute aspects of
    a task or situation.
  • Communication – The ability to effectively express your thoughts, ideas, and messages to diverse people in oral and written form. Public speaking skills and ability to write/edit emails, letters, and technical reports.

  • Professionalism – Capable of representing the organization in a professional manner, adapting to various situations with maturity, and maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to travel when necessary.
  • Ability to attend commencement ceremonies and other events to support students that may occur on weekends or evenings.
  • Ability to work flexible hours. This may include working over 40 hours a week during high volume times and less during others.  Will include occasional weekends and evenings.

Physical/Mental Demands: 

  • Maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students and donors
  • Comply with highly inflexible deadlines; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • Adapt to a variable work schedule; including occasional evenings and weekends as needed. This may include working more than 40 hours a week during high volume times, and less in low volumn
  • Interact with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions or may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • Frequently move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • Engage in multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • Routinely traveling and sitting for extended distances via air travel and/or driving a college vehicle
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; a team lift technique is required for lifts exceeding 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in student services, psychology, counseling, social sciences, marketing, or related field of student from an accredited college or university
  • One-year experience in advising, coaching, recruiting, or mentoring in secondary or post-secondary educational environments (or similar experience)
  • Valid Driver’s License and driving record that provides the ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student services, counseling, social sciences, marketing or related field of study from an accredited college or university
  • Two years’ experience in advising, coaching, recruiting, or mentoring in secondary or post-secondary educational environments (or similar experience)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
