  • Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm. May work some weekends during room turn around before semesters or special events.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Classified 3 level position. Starting salary range: $15.87 - $17.92/hourly, depending upon experience.

Job Summary:

Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Custodian I, Residential Living position is a full-time benefited position, that provides clean, safe, and professional facilities to our students, community, and stakeholders. Working either individually or as part of a team, this role performs custodial tasks across the residence halls to uphold high standards of cleanliness, attractiveness, health, and safety. This position involves regular communication with supervisors and team members, reporting work status, and notifying the appropriate parties of any facility needs, such as repairs, supplies, or equipment. Adherence to safety standards and proper use of protective equipment is required at all times. Individuals in this role are expected to represent the Department and LCCC in a professional manner. This position may require a flexible schedule, including support for special events or alternate shifts, including weekends.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions:   – this position is Non-Exempt, i.e., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. 

  • Provide custodial support by performing cleaning procedures in designated areas, including bathrooms, offices, hallways, floors, stairwells, service corridors, kitchens, study rooms, building exteriors, and trash collection.
  • Support security and safety efforts by reporting student issues and safety concerns, such as damaged facilities, inoperable equipment, or maintenance needs to the supervisor, Campus Safety or appropriate department.
  • Effectively communicate with team members, peers and managers by attending all meetings and trainings and maintaining contact throughout tasks across all residence halls.
  • Manage custodial supplies by tracking inventory levels and notifying the supervisor when items are low or need replacement.
  • Maintain records by logging completed tasks regularly.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Comply with highly inflexible deadlines; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.
  • Adapt to a variable work schedule; including night shifts, evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Interact with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions or may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations.
  • Frequently move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
  • Engage in multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing and carrying of objects.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; a team lift technique is required for lifts exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to read and interpret building and shift schedules, directions for equipment, hazardous material labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical labels.
  • Frequent and prolonged use/exposure to cleaning chemicals, exposure to dust, and potential exposure to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens; Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures must be utilized as required.
  • Able to function in an environment with substantial latex and/or nitrile material exposure and without an allergic reaction.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired.
  • Prior experience cleaning in a work setting.

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • One year of custodial experience preferred.

If you are selected for the position, your appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. LCCC reserves the right to end this employment agreement should the results of your background investigation not be successful.
