  • Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm (typically).

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Classified 4 level position. Starting wage range: $16.26 - $18.38/hourly, depending upon experience.

Job Summary: Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Associate Teacher position at the Children’s Discovery Center is a full-time benefited position responsible for functioning as the assistant teacher in the assigned classroom.  The position will be responsible for assisting the teacher, and actively participating in planning and preparing the classroom setting; supervising the children in the classroom; providing a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice developmentally appropriate skills and strategies.  This position will also be responsible for ongoing communication, and utilization of the Procare App with the families enrolled in the assigned classroom.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: – this position is Non-exempt, i.e., is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

  • Assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a safe and heathy, welcoming, developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children.
  • Assist the teacher with planning and providing appropriate activities and lessons to help all children grow and develop socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.
  • Supervising young children at all times (in the classroom, on the playground, on walks, etc.) ensuring the safety of all children.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with effective communication with other teaching staff and administrators to effectively implement the goals and objectives of the Children’s Discovery Center.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining proper communication with families of the enrolled children to build and maintain effective partnerships and relationships.
  • Assist teacher in implementing and maintaining National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) requirements and in preparing the NAEYC portfolios for accreditation.
  • Assist the teacher with maintain observations and progress records of each child’s growth and development, with formal and informal assessments, and with family conferences each year in November and May, or at other times as deemed necessary.
  • Contribute to staff and college in-service training sessions and other training opportunities as required. Provide CDC administrators with areas you would like to have more training in.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of early childhood development and applicable regulations that govern the operation of an early childhood education facility.
  • Ability to respond in a courteous and professional manner to common inquiries from co-workers, parents, college employees, and others as may be necessary.
  • Ability to work in an environment of collaboration, cooperation, sensitivity and confidentiality in working with the public, students, colleagues, and staff in both the classroom and on campus.
  • Skill in applying the appropriate teaching techniques and methods in the assigned classroom/age group.
  • Ability to function effectively as a classroom team member in a multi-tasking, fast paced environment.
  • Ability to frequently move around the assigned work areas as well as the playground, within hallways, and other areas of the campus.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential functions.
  • Overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal points quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to stand, walk, run, squat, kneel and sit while interacting with young children on a daily basis
  • Employee may at times be required to intervene and diffuse angry or frustrated clients
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associate degree in child development-early education or related field OR a Child Development Associate (CDA) and 3 or more years of experience.
  • Ability to meet requirements of Wyoming Department of Family Services, including but not limited to Background Check (finger prints & central registry) and current certification in CPR & First Aid.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in child development-early education, education, or a closely related field of study
