Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Professional l level position. Starting salary range: $41,670.00 - $47,105.00/annually, depending upon experience.

Job Summary: Core responsibilities include:

The Office of Student Accommodation Specialist provides invaluable support for ADA, Title IX, and case management services for the benefit of students. This position serves as part of suicide prevention and the Care Team as well, adding to a safe and well campus for all. Additionally, this position helps fill out applications, forms, makes referrals, and forms relationships to bridge the gap between LCCC and the workplace community, supporting Students in their best lives after LCCC as well.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: – this position is Exempt , or is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned.

  • Providing student accommodations, maintaining equipment, providing direct service to students, supporting Coordinator in day to day functioning of Student Accommodation. Working knowledge of ADA and higher education accommodation roles. Provides training on disability specific matters. Represent the College at local high schools, fairs, and events. Maintains confidentiality and works with diverse population. Maintaining accurate records. Handling medical and psychological reports, and review of such records.
  • Case Management: Member of Care Team. Filling out applications, referrals, supports, follow up, active listening, being a non-therapeutic support. Reach trainer. Being available for students in crisis.
  • Administrative support for Coordinator and Office of Student Life: Copying, filing, maintaining records, answering phones, screening students, scheduling, approving time for part time student workers, scheduling interpreters.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Knowledge and ability to effectively and ethically respond to a multitude of unique student situations with respect and confidentiality
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means – ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence.
  • Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine other’s needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested
  • Ability to travel when necessary, this position serves all LCCC Campuses and LCCC service area
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process) and consider possible applications of business literature and legal documents
  • Work in an office environment, position is not eligible for remote work. 

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Ability to stand and maintiain mental focus to produce correct sign language for up to one hour and fifteen minutes
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors.
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required. 
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long work days, evenings, and weekends as needed. 
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations. 
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities. 
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor. 
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s Degree in disability related field, case management, psychology, sociology, sign language, or closely related field.
  • Two years direct experience in case management, disability accommodation, or American Sign Language interpretation

Preferred Qualifications:    

  • Two years experience in educational setting
