Job Summary: 

Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Student Assistant position for LCCC is a part-time, non-benefited, student position that requires current enrollment as a 
LCCC student and requires Federal Work Study eligibility. (Students may speak with the LCCC Student Hub and Financial Aid to
determine if they are Federal Work Study eligible). This position is responsible for assisting the department with routine tasks that support the
day-to-day operations of the department. These tasks include but are not limited to clerical work such as filing, scanning, sorting, data entry,
copying and delivering paperwork; assisting in preparing office materials; answering phones; providing general customer service; supporting special projects;
and overall assisting the operational functions of the department. Individuals in this position are expected to represent the Department and LCCC in a
professional manner and adhere to applicable policies and procedures.

Start Date: Fall/2021.

 

Compensation: $8.92 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions:  

  • Support the department through clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, sorting, copying, delivering paperwork and completing general errands as needed
  • Assist faculty with courses or events through preparing course materials, monitoring supply inventories and assisting the operational functions of the department
  • Provide general customer service through answering phones, responding to visitors to the department, and routing inquiries to the appropriate faculty member or department
  • Support the department with special projects through completing tasks as assigned
  • Limited work or assistance with livestock under the direct supervision of a faculty member or BATS fulltime employee
  • Assist with data entry, maintenance of spreadsheets and creation of department flyers or communications

Nonessential Functions:  

An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis

  • Light cleaning and organization of the agricultural office and department areas
  • Attend department and program meetings as needed
  • Attend applicable training sessions as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to follow instructions in oral and written forms
  • Skills and abilities to perform tasks/duties with light to moderate supervision
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines and possible interruptions
  • Ability to respond to basic inquiries from faculty, staff, or other students
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including computer, copier, fax machine, and telephone

Physical/Mental Demands: 

  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of all employees, students, and donors
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds
  • Function in an environment with substantial animal exposure and without any allergic reactions

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Current LCCC student enrolled in courses for the employed semester

Preferred:

  • One year of experience in an office setting working with Microsoft Office Software. (Excel, Word, Etc.)
