    We have two (2) openings: Men's Assistant Rodeo Coach and Women's Assistant Rodeo Coach.


    Job Summary:

    Core responsibilities of this position include:

    The position of Assistant Coach is a PT non-benefited position responsible for supporting the mission, goals and objectives of the LCCC athletics program as outlined by the college administration and head coach. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: recruitment of student athletes who understand the rigorous  commitment needed to be successful in the classroom and on the field of competition; to instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy and physical training necessary to compete at a high degree of individual and team success; to explain and ensure safety rules and regulations; to support the logistical and administrative functions of the applicable athletic program; and to be an integral functioning part of the entire campus. The Assistant Coach position is compensated with a $10,000 stipend that is paid in 12 equal/monthly installments.

     Compensation: $10,000 stipend paid over 12 months in equal installments.

    Essential Functions

    Essential Functions:  


    • Demonstrates knowledge of all the institutional and athletic policies approved by the Board of Trustees and is responsible for its implementation while assisting in the overall strategic plan of the institution
    • Demonstrates knowledge of our Athletic Department’s, Region IX and NJCAA regulations, or NIRA, IHSA as appropriate, and follows those bylaws accordingly
    • Understands the proper administrative line of authority, and refers grievances through proper channels
    • Remains aware of all public/institutional/departmental meetings that require attendance
    • Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the LCCC athletic department and college community
    • Understands and follows all College policies and procedures and supports student athletes' adherence to all policies and procedures


    • Assists the head coach in scheduling, providing transportation to contests, tournaments and special sport events
    • Assists in preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times by coordinating program with other athletic teams, custodial, maintenance and school employees
    • Works directly with the athletic trainer to provides documentation to the athletic administrator needed to fulfill local, regional and national requirements concerning medical/consent/waiver forms, and injury tracking
    • Provides proper safeguards for maintenance, inventory and protection of assigned equipment and facilities
    • Assist head coach with the entire recruiting process


    • Provides training rules and other sport specific regulations to each individual
    • Supervises practices, games and team trips. Takes all necessary measures to safeguard each participant
    • Directs student managers and statisticians
    • Supports student athletes' adherence to the College Student Conduct code. Implements the enforcement of discipline as necessary
    • Contacts head coach and/or Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation when a student is alleged to have violated the Athletic Code of Conduct
    • Is present at all practices, contests, meetings, study halls and/or other gatherings assigned


    • Is accountable to the head coach for all equipment. Collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned
    • Arranges for issuing, marking and storing of equipment and submits an annual inventory and current records
    • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment
    • Recommends to the head coach budgetary items for next year in their area of the program
    • Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices and authorizes who may enter
    • Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times
    • Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility
    • Secure all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty
    • Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use


    • Assists the head coach in carrying out their responsibilities to include recruiting
    • Works closely with SID concerning press releases and school announcements as assigned
    • Instructs team members concerning changes in rules. Teaches fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach
    • Maintains a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering
    • Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of that sport
    • Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach
    • Supervises players whenever gathered as a team to include before, during and after practices, travel, study halls and contests
    • Ensures the safety of all athletes.  Helps in the planning, implementation, and supervision of both in-season and off-season conditioning, weight programs, summer league play, team camps, clinics and other skill development activities
    • Is included in confidential discussions about personnel with the head coach
    • Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the head coach
    • Attends contests of other teams in the program when possible
    • Supervises volunteer assistants, student assistants and student managers to include job duties
    • Performs other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be required by the head coach

    Nonessential Functions:  

    An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis.


    Performs other duties that may be requested by the head coach, administration and/or faculty and staff that may include, but not limited to:

    • Assist in setting up for contests, events and special occasions
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Travel to trainings, conferences, events, meetings, and continuous development opportunities as associated with this position and program
    • Attend all required program, department, division, and college meetings
    • Attend and participate in community service projects

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated ability as a rodeo athlete
    • Ability to assist in coaching all men’s and women’s rodeo events
    • Knowledge of collegiate, regional, and National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rules and opportunities for students
    • Demonstrated ability as an equestrian rider
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Possess proficiency in coaching methodology, program design and development, program strategic planning, budgeting
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, and pass the van driver training course to be a certified LCCC driver
    • Demonstrate professional knowledge of discipline and changes in the field
    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
    • Demonstrate collaboration, cooperation and sensitivity in working with students, colleagues and staff in the campus settings
    • Facilitate partnerships with stakeholders to include but not limited to FFA, 4-H, Universities, private industry
    • Demonstrate appropriate judgment in making decisions
    • Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices
    • Knowledge of and experience in accounting and budgetary procedures; strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail in all areas of responsibility
    • Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine others needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested
    • Demonstrates knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association, NIRA, or IHSA rules and regulations
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process)
    • Ability to read, interpret and consider possible applications of business literature and legal documents
    • Advanced Knowledge of the assigned sport rules, regulations, game strategies, and methodology
    • Ability to provide effect coaching, training direction, encouragement, motivation, injury care, and nutritional advice to prepare athletes for competitive events
    • Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure
    • Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices

    Physical/Mental Demands: 

    • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of all employees, students, and donors
    • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
    • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
    • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
    • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
    • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, climbing, crouching, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
    • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. Assisted lift technique is required for all lifts over 50 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
    • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds
    • This position requires travel including overnight travel to events, meetings, and competitions
    • Ability to function in an agriculture environment with substantial animal exposure and without any allergic reactions



    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • Three (3) years of coaching experience or collegiate playing experience in assigned sport
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider


    • Associate degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in coaching or a coaching endorsement
    • Three (3) years direct Collegiate-coaching experience in assigned sport
    • One (1) year collegiate athlete recruiting experience
    • One (1) year collegiate teaching experience
