    Job Summary: 

    Core responsibilities of this position include:

    The position for Laramie County Community College (LCCC) is responsible providing general facility supervision, Rock Wall safety enforcement, customer service, and emergency prevention and response for all patrons of the Rock Wall facility. This position is part-time and non-benefitted. This position represents the college in a professional and positive manner and is responsible for but not limited to: supervision to maintain order and safety of the facility; respond immediately and appropriately to emergency situations; provide emergency care and treatment; support facility operations including equipment cleaning, maintenance, and storage; lock and unlock the facility; report and take action regarding unsafe conditions; provide professional customer service and communication to patrons; report maintenance or repair needs; and contribute to the general operations of the facility in accordance with LCCC policies and procedures.

    Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

    Compensation: $10.27/hr. Commensurate with experience.


    Screening Date: As soon after screening as practical.


    Start Date: April 16th, 2018.


    Essential Functions

    Essential Functions:  

    • Provide excellent customer service in a professional and polite manner
    • Instruct and assist patrons on the safe use and operation of the facility
    • Supervise the Rock Wall and patrons of the facility to maintain order and safety
    • Effectively communicate and enforce LCCC facility and safety rules; communicate with the responsible individual or individuals for group events to ensure adequate customer service and that rules are followed
    • Immediately take action to prevent and respond to unsafe conditions
    • If necessary, perform and assist in emergency rescue/incident response, contact the appropriate level of support required for issues or incidents and report all incidents to Facility Management
    • Follow area emergency procedures for the notification of first responders and emergency services
    • Provide emergency care and treatment, as required, until the arrival of emergency medical services
    • As required, inspect the facilities for safe conditions; including before and after operational use
    • Perform facility routine maintenance, operational, and organization duties; to include: the return of equipment to designated areas, unlock/lock facilities before and after the operational hours, perform designated cleaning, and complete necessary area logs/forms
    • Maintain up-to-date skills and certification
    • Report any unsafe conditions, need for repair, or equipment maintenance needs to facility management
    • Report/refer any customer service complaints to facility management
    • Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need

    Nonessential Functions:  

    An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis

    • Monitor locker rooms in accordance with area policies and assist patrons as appropriate; contact athletics staff for support as needed
    • Attend department meetings as requested

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to execute the essential and nonessential functions of this position in a positive, tactful, and professional manner
    • Knowledge of and ability to perform CPR, facility rescues (from small children to large adults), and the necessary emergency medical procedures associated with this position
    • Skill and ability to proficiently climb, instruct, and execute the duties of a Rock Wall Attendant
    • Ability to assess emergency situations; react quickly and appropriately; and communicate in a professional and calm manner
    • Ability to act with authority and enforce rules with occasionally uncooperative customers with regard to inappropriate behavior, unsafe behavior or behavior that violates Rock Wall or facility use rules
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process)
    • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with people; proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, with courtesy and tact, to accurately determine others needs, collect necessary information, and follow-through when requested
    • Knowledge of Rock Wall equipment function and use including but not limited to emergency response equipment, harnesses, ropes and knot tying, replacement of hand holds, belay equipment and general cleaning equipment
    • Ability to work the required part-time schedule and communicate effectively with timely notice if schedule conflicts do occur

    Physical/Mental Demands: 

    ·         To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor information; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors

    • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
    • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations

    ·         While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities

    • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, and exposure to a Rock Wall environment

    ·         An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions

    ·         Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus

    • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds





    • High school Diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • Three months of rock wall climbing experience
    • First Aid and CPR/AED certification


    • Prior experience in rock wall or rock climbing instruction
    • Affiliation with a climbing association
