Job Summary:  

Effectively functions as the primary and lead teacher in assigned classroom (i.e., 12-18 month classroom); responsible for daily operations, planning, scheduling and supervision of the respective classroom working in partnership with classroom assistants and CDC Director to provide a developmentally appropriate pre-school program utilizing approved curriculum resources; initiate and maintain accreditation portfolios; oversee positive and safe learning environment; maintains progress records of each child’s growth and development and prepare periodic reports and development plans per each child; mentor and supervise classroom subordinates; work with parents to promote understanding of their child’s growth and development, encouraging parental participation and attendance at center functions and conduct formal and/or informal parent/teacher conferences; supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times; contribute to staff and college in-service training sessions; and participate in training opportunities as required. Lead teachers are expected to act as mentors for any LCCC or University of Wyoming, or any college students coming to their classrooms for observations or interships.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as lead teacher for assigned classroom, responsible for daily operation, planning and scheduling of respective classroom, including supervision of assigned associates and aides
  • Develop, implement, teach and evaluate a curriculum that meets the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, cultural and developmental needs of individual young children and adhere to the general curriculum guidelines of the learning center
  • Initiate, maintain and update as needed, accreditation portfolios required of the facility accreditation agency known as National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Maintain other applicable certification documentation as required
  • Oversee and maintain a positive, stimulating, safe, and sanitary learning environment to meet the changing needs of the individual child
  • Provide continual supervision and effective learning tools to ensure the safety of all children on an ongoing basis
  • Initiate written observation assessments of young children to document each child’s growth and development
  • Maintain individual student records related to attendance, emergency programs and other pertinent records as required by governing agencies or learning center policy and procedure
  • Conduct formal and/or informal parent/teacher conferences in accordance with facility standards
  • Mentor and supervise associate teachers and other subordinate staff members and complete required written assessments of these individuals’ respective job performance in accordance with college procedures
  • Initiate and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with parents of children through proper communication on a regular basis, informing parents of the progress and development of their children
  • Encourage parental participation in center programs and attendance at parent group functions and other center functions
  • Assist CDC management with development and implementation of all required health and safety protocols, ensuring that classroom subordinates and children participate in same
  • Work in a collaborative manner with supervisors, colleagues, subordinates and support staff to effectively implement the goals and objectives of the learning center
  • Contribute to staff and college in-service training sessions and other training opportunities as required

  • Ability to act on own initiative while exercising reasonable judgment
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process)
  • Ability to read, interpret and consider possible applications of professional literature and basic educational documents
  • Ability to deal effectively with people
  • Ability to establish appropriate professional rapport, with courtesy and tact
  • Ability to accurately determine other’s needs, collect necessary information, and follow-through when requested 
 

Physical/Mental Demands:

 

  • Frequent standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, and sitting while interacting with young children
  • Employee may at times be required to intervene and diffuse angry or frustrated clients
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions
  • Mentally track multiple tasks at once
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field 
  • Ability to pass LCCC background check
  • Willingness to have tuberculosis test
  • Willingness to obtain CPR and first aid certification

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Education or related field
  • Demonstrable skills and knowledge in the areas of health, nutrition, safety, active learning environment, guidance and discipline, child growth and development, family relationships, program management, professionalism, and cultural awareness
  • Dedication to professional development and continuing education
