Job Summary: 

Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Student Assistant position for LCCC Music Department is a part-time position responsible for assisting department faculty with routine tasks that support the day-to-day operations of the department. These tasks include but are not limited to clerical work such as filing, scanning, sorting, copying and delivering paperwork; assisting in preparing course materials; managing music scores; management of uniform inventory; answering phones; providing general customer service; supporting special projects; and overall assisting the operational functions of the department. Individuals in this position will be expected to represent the Music Department and LCCC in a professional manner.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

 

Start Date: As soon after screening as practical.

 

Compensation:  Minimum $8.92/hr. Commensurate with experience.

 

Essential Functions

  • Support the Music department through clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, sorting, copying, delivering paperwork and completing general errands as needed
  • Assist faculty with courses or events through preparing course materials, managing music scores and management of uniform inventory
  • Provide general customer service through answering phones, responding to visitors to the department, and routing inquiries to the appropriate faculty member or department
  • Support faculty with special projects through completing tasks as assigned

Nonessential Functions:   An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis

  • Light cleaning in the music storage room or rehearsal room

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to follow instructions in oral and written forms
  • Skills and abilities to perform tasks/duties with light to moderate supervision
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines and possible interruptions
  • Ability to respond to basic inquiries from faculty, staff, or other students
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including computer, copier, fax machine, and telephone
  • Knowledge of musical terminology, notation, and score reading for organizational purposes

Physical/Mental Demands: 

  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the office space as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must e able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current LCCC student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours

Preferred:

  • Current LCCC music student
  • Prior experience in an office or college environment
