There may be multiple openings for this position, which will be filled on an as-needed basis.

 

The faculty member is responsible for the coordination, planning, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Laramie County Community College campus or outreach center as assigned.  A faculty member performs all other duties as directed by the School Dean, Vice President of Academic Affairs, or the President or designee.

 

Instruct freshman and sophomore level courses in one of the following areas; Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Microbiology & Physics. The normal teaching load is 3-9 credit hours per semester and courses may be offered face to face, hybrid and/or online.

 

 

 

Starting Date: Filled as needed.

 

Compensation: $700 per credit hour.

 

Essential Functions

Category I – Facilitate Learning
Faculty have the instruction of assigned classes as their primary responsibility.  This duty takes precedence over all others. The following are considered essential components of the job.
•Coordinates, plans, organizes, and instructs courses as needed and assigned by the College
•Teaches assigned classes as per course and final exam schedule and meets required contact hours, unless permission to deviate has been approved by appropriate supervisor to accommodate student needs
•Actively incorporates current subject matter expertise into teaching
•Teaches classes according to the approved Master Course Outline of Record (MCOR)
•Provides a current course syllabus for each course taught to the appropriate supervisor
•Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion and provides ongoing feedback regarding course grade
•Manage classroom environment and student behavior
•Participates in the course and institutional level assessment cycle of student learning for college data collection and continuous improvement
•Posts and maintains office hours or other regular hours in the student success center, writing center, or other areas approved by the Dean in accordance with College policy and procedure
•Uses textbooks and other instructional materials as assigned by the department chair
•Intrateam accountability with department chair
•Supports the mission, vision and values of LCCC
Category 2-Service for College
•Attends faculty meetings, department meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Vice President of Academic Affairs, School Dean, Program Director, and/or Department Chair
Category 3- Professional Development
•Maintains necessary educational credentials and professional skills appropriate to the facilitation of learning and teaching assignment

 

 

Nonessential Functions:   An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis.

Category 3- Professional Development
•Solicits feedback and implements suggestions from students and peers
•Keeps informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•Knowledge in chosen field of study and pedagogy
•Ability to use appropriate teaching techniques and methods in classroom and/or online instruction
•Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and exhibit good work ethic
•Skilled at establishing  student-instructor relationships conducive to learning and promote active involvement of students in learning activities
•Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
•Ability to teach course content that is consistent with the official course outline of record and use pertinent course materials at an appropriate level including online learning management system platforms
•Skilled at collaboration, cooperation and sensitivity in working with colleagues and staff

 

 

Physical/Mental Demands: (The physical demands and work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this position and/or may be encountered while performing essential functions.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions)

•While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work space as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities. 
•There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged personal computer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor.
•The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects
•The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.
•There may be occurrences of employees, past employees, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations.
•An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Masters’ degree in one of the natural science area of study from a regionally accredited institution. 

Candidates must have a minimum of 18 graduate credits in their teaching field.
